More Bab Ballads
The second gathering of Gilbert's comic verse from Fun. "The Bumboat Woman's Story" has a woman who follows her lieutenant to sea in disguise and finds the entire crew has had the same idea; "Pasha Bailey Ben", "Lost Mr. Blake", "Lieutenant-Colonel Flare", "Mister William", "Little Oliver", "The Two Ogres", "The Baby's Vengeance" and "The Captain and the Mermaids" follow — each a premise stated in the first stanza and then carried out with complete logical rigour and no mercy at all.
W. S. Gilbert published More Bab Ballads in 1873, with his own drawings, before the partnership with Sullivan began in earnest. Several of these supplied situations he used again on the Savoy stage, and the sea pieces in particular fed directly into H.M.S. Pinafore.
This Bibliomancer edition presents the ballads complete.
