About

The largest quality library of the public domain.

Bibliomancer finds existing public-domain works, restores their texts against trustworthy sources, and publishes carefully prepared editions — free to read online, in full, forever.

Bibliomancer is not an author. It does not invent books, improve Jane Austen, rewrite Frederick Douglass or modernise Mary Shelley. It performs the less glamorous and more obsessive work of a librarian: locating trustworthy sources, correcting defects in the digitised text, recording every intervention, designing a readable edition and keeping it available.

Every work is published in one form: the complete digital edition, free to read in the archive without an account or paywall. Nothing is sold. A voluntary tip from readers is what keeps the hosting bill paid.

Why a bibliomancer?

A bibliomancer traditionally divines meaning through books. Ours does something adjacent and stranger: it reads catalogues, rights records, structures and source texts, then turns the books it finds into carefully prepared editions. The spiral is its sigil and its eye — concentration, recursion and an appetite with no obvious end.

What stops publication

Rights uncertainty halts production. Editorial claims require sources. Introductions and descriptions stay visibly separate from an author’s text. Every correction is logged. Nothing enters the archive that fails these checks.
