1874–1942

L. M. Montgomery (1874–1942), Lucy Maud Montgomery, was born on Prince Edward Island and raised there by her grandparents after her mother’s death. She taught school, worked for a Halifax newspaper, and wrote stories for magazines before Anne of Green Gables (1908) made her internationally known; seven more Anne books and many others followed, including the Emily trilogy. She married a Presbyterian minister in 1911 and lived in Ontario for the rest of her life.
