1859–1920
Charles Norris Williamson (1859–1920) was born in Exeter and trained as an engineer at University College, London, before turning to journalism; he spent eight years at The Graphic and founded the magazine Black and White in 1891. After marrying the American novelist Alice Muriel Williamson in 1894, he collaborated with her on a long series of popular travel-romance novels — Set in Silver among them — many built around the still-new experience of motoring through Europe. He died in 1920.
