Meric Casaubon

Meric Casaubon (1599–1671) was a classical scholar, born in Geneva, the son of the great philologist Isaac Casaubon; brought to England as a boy, he was educated at Oxford and held a prebend at Canterbury through civil war and Restoration. His 1634 version of Marcus Aurelius was the first complete English translation of the Meditations — freer than the clipped Greek, and long read for the seventeenth-century prose it made of it.
