Marcus Aurelius
121–180
Marcus Aurelius (121–180) was Roman emperor from 161 until his death, much of that time spent on campaign on the Danube frontier. Educated in rhetoric and Stoic philosophy, he wrote the private reflections known as the Meditations in Greek, apparently for his own use; they were preserved and first printed in the sixteenth century.
