L. A. Selby-Bigge

1860–1951

L. A. Selby-Bigge (1860–1951), Sir Lewis Amherst Selby-Bigge, was a fellow of University College, Oxford, and later a senior civil servant (Permanent Secretary of the Board of Education, 1911–25). His editions of Hume’s Enquiries (1894) and Treatise (1888) and his British Moralists (1897) were the standard Oxford texts for most of the twentieth century; the Enquiry here follows his edition.
