Isabel Florence Hapgood

Isabel Florence Hapgood (1850–1928) was an American writer and translator, born at Boston, who worked from Russian, French and Italian. She translated Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, spent two years in Russia at the end of the 1880s, and later produced the English Service Book of the Orthodox Church (1906). Her version of Hugo’s Les Misérables appeared in 1887.
