Aylmer Maude

1858–1938

Aylmer Maude (1858–1938) lived in Russia for over twenty years as a businessman, knew Tolstoy well, and with his wife Louise Maude (1855–1939) translated most of his works into English, including War and Peace (1922–23) and Anna Karenina; he also wrote Tolstoy’s biography.
