Auguste Maquet
1813–1888
Auguste Maquet (1813–1888) was a French writer and Alexandre Dumas’s principal collaborator. From 1839 he supplied plots, historical research and drafts for the great serials, among them The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Vicomte de Bragelonne. He went to law against Dumas for a share of the royalties and for his name on the title pages, and was awarded money but not the credit. He later presided over the Société des gens de lettres.
