Fanny Van de Grift Stevenson
1840–1914
Fanny Van de Grift Stevenson (1840–1914) was an American writer born in Indianapolis. After her first marriage ended, she met Robert Louis Stevenson in France in 1876 and married him in San Francisco in 1880, following him afterward through Europe, America and finally to Samoa, where they settled in 1890. She collaborated with him on The Dynamiter (1885) and other work, and after his death in 1894 edited and supplied prefatory material for several posthumous collections of his writing.
