Alexander H. Japp
1839–1905
Alexander H. Japp (1839–1905) was a Scottish author, journalist and publisher who wrote widely on natural history and literary biography, often under the pseudonym H. A. Page. His interest in Henry David Thoreau brought him to Robert Louis Stevenson's acquaintance at Braemar in August 1881; Stevenson read him the opening chapters of what became Treasure Island, and Japp arranged its serial publication in the magazine Young Folks. The two corresponded for the rest of Stevenson's life. Japp also wrote lives of Thoreau and De Quincey, and edited De Quincey's collected writings.
