Edward Jenkins

1838–1910

Edward Jenkins (1838–1910) was a barrister and Liberal politician who made his name with Ginx's Baby (1870), a satire on rival religious charities fighting over a poor child that caused a sensation on publication and influenced the religious-education compromise in that year's Education Act. He went on to sit as MP for Dundee (1874–1880), served on the Royal Commission on Copyright, and later worked as Agent-General for Canada, promoting emigration to the Dominion.
